Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a talk therapy aimed at solving problems with dysfunctional emotions, cognition (thought processes), and behaviour that can lead to addictive behaviour. As the therapy is systematic and targeted, it can begin to yield results within a short span of time. CBT has been proven to be an effective treatment for many mental health issues connected with alcohol abuse, such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit disorder (ADD), anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

Alcohol Rehab Psychotherapy is key to rehab and recovery success

At Searidge we offer this therapy in both group and in individual settings, as both yield uniquely positive results:

Group Therapy sessions give residents a positive community to look to for support and empathy. It also presents a greater perspective on the experiences of others struggling with alcohol addiction.

Individual Therapy gives residents the opportunity to delve deeper into events with the counsellor in a more confidential setting, and to discuss anything they might feel uncomfortable discussing in a group setting. This allows counsellors to guide residents through addressing issues more specifically and working together towards a solution.

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT)

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy helps residents pinpoint the irrational thought processes that often lead to self-destructive behaviour. This therapy is based on the premise that it is our thought processes themselves that affect our emotions and subsequent behaviour when responding to events.

Replacing the irrational thought processes with the rational gives residents greater capability to cope with processing and reacting to difficult situations. It boosts self-awareness and esteem and aims to train residents to have greater control over their minds.

Psychodynamic – Alcohol Rehab Psychotherapy Program

This therapy delves much deeper into the subconscious. The counsellor and resident will explore deep-rooted trauma and unresolved conflicts with the goal of ultimately resolving them.

This very thorough and focused therapy requires a great amount of confidence and trust between the counsellor and the resident that our staff works to improve both inside and outside our therapy sessions. As a small rehab center we are able to continue working on these relationships each and every day.

Cognitive Bias Modification (CBM)

Cognitive Bias Modification is a relatively new form of computer-based therapy. During sessions, residents cycle through a series of imagery on a computer screen- some neutral and some related to the use of alcohol. With a joystick, the resident has the option to either ‘pull towards’ or ‘push away’ from the image. By consistently saying ‘no’ to images related to alcohol, those in alcohol addiction recovery can train to automatically and subconsciously say no to alcohol in real life. CBM is an excellent complement to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
